I didn’t really proofread this. I hope it’s legible. I’ll proofread this whole post a little later. The previous part is here.
Chapter 3
O, What Men Dare Do!
I hadn’t washed my hands yet. They still had Z’s blood on them. I couldn’t think about cheap ampicilllin anything else. I was afraid if I stopped thinking about my hands I would just see Lee’s smile and Z’s twitching body.
Lee had exited the bar dragging me with him and asked me if I knew where he could obtain a map. I wanted to know how he could talk about obtaining a map like he was talking about the weather when he had just mowed down a man in the prime of his life. I was about to say as much but instead weakly informed him that most of the businesses that sell maps would be purchase cheap pharm closed at this time of night, but it was quite possible I had one at my place. He nodded and smiled and asked me very politely to lead the way. I’m sure Z would have enjoyed the same politeness if you hadn’t killed him. There was still blood on my hands. It was cold and sticky. I stuck my hands in my pockets. There was now blood in my pockets.
I half stumbled in a dazed state in the direction of my apartment. I didn’t mind my owners silence as he followed. I was quite happily insulting him in every possible way in my head. To me he was no better than the infamous emperor Cornelias aptly named the emperor of slaughter. He had butchered more than three million people in the name of civil defense. The secret police of those days had been legendary. Every relative of someone found guilty at one of his trials for treason was immediately dragged away to one of those dark places; needless to say they were never to be seen again. They found Cornelias dead one morning after ingesting poison. They blamed the murder on the slave who had delivered the meal. I wondered if I would end up in the same position when someone finally found the time to poison the murderer behind me.
We reached my apartment and I brushed my hand across the lock. The door opened and the murderer and I stepped in. My apartment was rather large for a University student. My father was well off and left me a small fortune so I wouldn’t bother him. I tried not to spend frivolously, but the place I had consisted of three rooms, a kitchen, a dining room, and a bathroom. Lee showed no reaction one way or the other he simply scanned the dining room before walking down the hall to look in the other rooms. I didn’t care. I went and washed my hands. After I had scrubbed an entire layer of skin off my hands to make sure that none of Z remained on me I remembered the original purpose of coming to my apartment. My usually warm apartment seemed uncomfortable and oppressive with Lee in the house. I went over to the shelf where I kept many of my electronic encyclopedias and looked for the plain paper map I had so ambitiously bought when I had first moved to Cadous.
I had barely spread the whole thing out on the table when Lee returned from the back bedrooms.
“Very good, now go tell me what those men who tailed us all the way back here are thinking.” He said while quickly moving to survey the map.
Perhaps order cheap pharmacy I was getting tired of just doing things without explanation buy acomplia online or far more likely I was still dumbfounded by the events of this evening because I dumbly asked “What?”
If I had been asked what Lee would have done to someone who asked “What?” in such a stupid manner five minutes ago I would have responded he would have throttled the person on the spot. For whatever reason this is not the way Lee responded.
“There are two men who have been tailing us since we left the saloon.” Lee began carefully looking at the map but the way he spoke wasn’t that of distraction. “One is a harmless tall scrawny fellow, but the other one looks semi dangerous.”
At the word dangerous my leg began twitching uncontrollably Lee noticed and continued.
“I don’t think they are going to attack us by themselves or they would have tried it awhile ago. We walked down several places more suitable for attacking than a well lit apartment in a nice neighborhood. Nonetheless, I would like to know what they are planning, so if you would be so kind…” Lee finished his pointed statement.
Seeing this as my dismissal but feeling slightly more enlightened I obliged and walked to the back bedroom. In order to read the persons mind I have to be looking at them. I think it’s just easier if I know exactly where they are. There are over a hundred thousand minds in Cadous; I need to know exactly where the mind I want is located. I walked into my back bedroom and was thoroughly embarrassed to see the state of disarray it was in. My bed wasn’t made and my clothes, take out food, and collection of holomovies, with questionable content, were all over the floor. Lee had been in here only a few moments ago. I soon realized though just how ridiculous worrying about the state of my room was when the man who could still kill me at any moment was standing in the living room. If he hadn’t killed me yet he probably wouldn’t mind a messy room. I went and peeked through my royal blue curtains down at the street.
The men there were as described, one scrawny, the other stocky. I chose to read the scrawny person’s mind first seeing as he seemed much more nervous and was liable to be thinking of much more useful information.
He was thinking about what would happen if the man in the black coat came out and saw the two of them there. He wondered whether or not the man with the funny pink glasses would show up with the rest of the money soon. The thought that kept resurfacing the most however was whether or not the amount of money promised him was worth the risk of his life.
I wanted to go report my findings to Lee immediately but thought I better look into the other man’s mind for good measure first though. He was thinking about a cute little girl with strawberry blond hair he had met only that day. He kept repeating the name Violet over and over and remembered her saying that she thought his bald head was very masculine. He passed his hand over his bald head which if I hadn’t been reading his mind I would have just thought was a show of impatience. Despite becoming a slave, despite a man dying, I chuckled. I couldn’t stop it from squeezing its way between my lips, maybe I was catching a little of Lee’s insanity.
I walked back out to the dining room where Lee was still studying the map.
“Oh good your back,” He said waving me over never looking up from the map. “Did you find anything out?” He asked as if not really interested.
“They were hired by a man with strange pink sunglasses to follow you. They are by no means professionals.” I said. After saying those words I instantly regretted saying that they weren’t professionals seeing as I had no idea. I didn’t want my image of professional assassins to be slandered by the stocky man thinking about his girl named Violet. I would never take a holomovie seriously again.
Lee stopped his studying of the map and a dark expression clouded his face when he looked at me.
“They were hired by another Death Lord then.” Lee surmised, “One man by the name of Rasa. Is he coming here?”
“Uh… they seemed to be waiting for him.” I said kicking myself for leaving out that important detail.
“Best to take this with us then and lose the thugs,” He said folding the map as if it was the most precious object in the world before sliding it inside one of his inner pockets. “Let some of the other Death Lords kill each other for awhile. I’m not going to do all of the work. Is there another exit?”
“There’s the fire escape.” I said pointing to a door by the kitchen.
“That will do. Let’s go.” He walked over to the door and opened it silently before climbing down the ladder that was there for safety reasons. I quickly followed suit locking the door as I left, wondering briefly if I would ever see my apartment again. Lee softly did his little dog whistle which I assume meant that he didn’t care for my sentiments and he would rather be on his way. I climbed the rest of the way down quickly. I briskly set out into the night following Lee towards a place I didn’t know. He was leading again, but his shoulder wasn’t as cold as it was before. Somehow only a few words had made him seem slightly less of a monster. I drudged up the memories of his insane grin the two times I had seen it tonight and reminded myself he was still a monster.
“I have a place they gave me for the Games,” Lee interrupted the silence. “Rasa will probably be watching your apartment for a few days so it’s not safe for you to return there.”
I must admit his words took me by surprise, they weren’t unkind.
“Seeing as it would be inconvenient for me if you were captured or killed you’ll be staying with me.”
Feeling we were on slightly better terms I asked a question that had been eating at my thoughts zithromax buy online without me realizing since I had seen Z die.
“Are you going to kill me too?”
The insane smile of Lee’s greeted me as he twirled around to look into my eyes directly. The night was black but the darkness of Wesley Savick shown with such intensity that he was almost too bright to look at. His coat danced with the pavement as his eyes grew wide completely decimating the humanity I had briefly felt in him.
“You and I are getting along quite nicely. Wouldn’t you say so?” He spoke so quietly I believed his tone menacing. He didn’t wait for a response and instead turned his back in my direction and continued walking.
A minute later I realized he hadn’t answered my question at all.
