I use a program called melody assistant. I initially was just using it because it was free, but it was relatively easy to use and working in concert with PDF creator it's pretty convenient. Basically I didn't want to learn how to use another program so I paid the $20 for it. I was trying a free sample of Vocaloid for a little while, but that's to expensive and too much work to make the voice sound good (Although I really do like the sound of Kagami Rin's voice).

I have another music recording program, but I've barely used it as I don't really like my setup. My microphone just doesn't pick things up that well and my sound card isn't that amazing so...

Higurashi is perhaps one of my favorite shows. You could read some of Jason's back blogs on it, but watching the opening to the first season late at night still gives me the creeps: Killer Loli's plus creepy music is just plain scary. They really lose a lot of what made it good in the second season, but the first season is really quite a different feel from normal anime. All in All I give it my recommendation. Maybe just up to about four episodes before the first reset. Murder/Horror/Mystery/Killer Loli's. A striking combination.

Yeah using the 6th in the key as the minor is generally a good solution but you've got to watch out that you're not pulling a Pachabell's Cannon !

Indeed, it did sound more interesting, yet still natural. I find that hard to achieve as many of my songs also end up being probably the same 3 chords. Though lately I've found a remedy: using a relative minor key. Then it sounds a little darker and not so "Pop"y.

I have read Jason's post, but sadly, I never watched the original series so I didn't watch the OVA. I guess since Jason blogs about it, it's pretty good?

BTW what program do u use?

Nope the 20 seconds of silence are because I forgot to put the ending bar on the end of the music so it played all of the extra white bars . The instrument playing the melody is actually a music box midi and the bottom is a vibraphone so your guesses were very good. I actually spent some money to upgrade the instrument selection for my music writing program. It's supposed to be better and there's a lot more selection. I haven't played Maple Story but I know it's a popular game so I'll take that as a compliment.

I liked writing this because it changes keys pretty frequently and uses odd chords but sounds fairly natural. Normally my songs are just the three major chords in the key and the 6th as the minor. Pretty boring.

Thanks for the comment and have you read Jason's new post on the Higurashi OVA. I was so surprised to see there was a Higurashi OVA I almost fell out of my chair and then came close to repeating the incident when I couldn't stop laughing through the entire episode.

Reminds me of a theme you'd hear in Maple Story. I like the choice of instruments, sounds like a bass marimba and xylophone perhaps?

There's 20 seconds of silence at the end. Is this intentional?
