I shamelessly lovingly ripped off Jason Miao for this style of posting.
whether or not he ripped it off someone else is something I do not know.

Of course immediately after proclaiming I’m waiting for the new season the first episode of something I want to see comes out. I laughed five times in the first two minutes. I’m not really all that sure why: Maybe because it’s 2:30 a.m. and the lead character was just so ridiculous, typical, and Yui.

0:30 It’s small touches like childlike etchings of soldiers or how detailed that wall looks. Why is she crying? Why do animes start with little girls crying? Oh, that’s right, because you can’t tell a good story when there’s a family in the picture. Why not start with the girl losing her parents? That’s the way adventures begin right? Plus you can pretend they’re three dimensional since they had a sad past. Shoot I better give this series more of a chance.

Photobucket

1:05 Do you hear that train noise? That is so good, I actually feel like they are on board a train, and the way Kanata’s character rocks back and forth with the jitters of the train. Wow!

Photobucket

1:48 Wow Kanata has the same look as Yui did when she entered high school.

Photobucket

The OP is pretty decent; though I’m sure they’re going to put different animation to it later. I think they’re doing a good job setting the mood.

Photobucket

3:38 I have never been that happy about eating something. I really need to enjoy life more.

4:04 I start wondering whether or not Kanata is going to survive the first episode… Does that make this a good war flick?

Photobucket

4:27 Hmm, I’ve never really thought about it before, but there are different kinds of cluelessness. What kind of cluelessness do we classify that as? It’s not really the lazy cluelessness of Yui, it’s kind of a “I’m trying hard but I’m still clueless” look. Hmmm, there’s a character out there that matches this description but for the life of me I can’t… put… my… finger… on… it. Maybe the lead from Strike Witches (I only watched two episodes of that show, it didn’t float my boat).

Photobucket

5:21 Just kidding before; that’s the look Yui had when she entered high school. It’s got the gravity defying hair and everything.

Photobucket

5:30 Why haven’t we found out the bugle’s name yet. I’m expecting something like Buggy. My trumpet’s named Hantukova for obvious reasons.

Photobucket

5:50 Second Thought: A-1 Productions has really outdone themselves. I had to double check that this wasn’t KyoAni (because I really thought I was watching K-On Season 2: Yui goes to war). The production value is so much higher than Valkyria Chronicles and infinitely better than Fairy Tail. The great sound effects on the train and the number of fps hit me out of nowhere. Not to mention the characters look good and this anime generation. (This is the KyoAni generation by the way).

Photobucket

6:05 You can tell when they actually spend money on animating things. More than just the main character is animated.

Photobucket

6:39 OMG it’s Mio. There must be so many happy fanboys out there right now. Wow and she’s even named Rio… They aren’t even trying.

Photobucket
Photobucket

8:22 I don’t want to be invited to a festival where people throw cool-aid in my face. It would just be uncomfortable. At least they’re trying to create an atmosphere.

Photobucket

8:42 That cat is going to kill someone.

Photobucket
Photobucket

10:42 There’s Mugi, and who’s the fourth: Ritsu? Azusa? She looks more like an Azusa and she has more of the temperament for it too.

Photobucket

11:03 D-flat… So I guess that means she has perfect pitch and is going to be an idiot Savant. Then again maybe not.

Photobucket

11:53 As Kanata almost takes a nose dive off the balcony I really start wondering if she is going to survive the first episode. Does that make this a good war flick?

Photobucket

12:20 I spot my favorite character of the series. Oh I so know her type. The industrious, quiet, emotionally reserved one.

Photobucket

13:20 The music in this series is going to rock.

Photobucket

14:00 She almost falls off a balcony and now she’s going on a Cliffside adventure… She’s definitely not the lazy kind of clueless… The scenery in this show is pretty…

Photobucket
Photobucket

16:28 I wonder if Kanata is going to survive the first episode. Does that make this a good war flick?

16:38 OMG! There’s Dragon bones without a head… I’m hooked, I’ll watch this series to its completion.

Photobucket

16:50 Rio senpai? Really? Are they even trying to differentiate this show from K-On? So I guess that makes the fourth character Azusa. As for the captain, come on, she sounds like Mugi and looks like Mugi with glasses.

17:00 Omg she even likes dressing Mio, ehemmm, I mean Rio Senpai up in costumes so she can watch her with Mugi-vision.

Photobucket

17:10 There is no way she swam out of the river wearing that pack, absolutely no way. I’m giving away the twist at the end: Kanata just died and we’re going to figure it out at the climax of the story (this is a lie I have no idea).

17:28 Are you guys getting the sound in this cavern? It’s pretty darn epic. They’ve been doing such a great job with the sound so far. It really sets the mood and immerses you in the world.

Photobucket

18:00 Do we have a KyoAni challenger for best animated crying?

Photobucket

19:42 “It’s ok, we needed a 5th member for our band otherwise the student council was going to disband our club”.

Photobucket

20:48 Oh I am so cracking out my trumpet tomorrow and learning that solo (I would get it out right now, but it could be considered a little inconsiderate).

Photobucket
Photobucket

21:13 I would hate to live in that village and be woken up at all hours of the day by someone blaring on their trumpet over a canyon. I’m surprised we didn’t have ten people yelling “Shaaataaaap”!

Photobucket

22:23 For all the people laughing at Kanata right now: Don’t. The morning call is so hard to play. Ok it’s a little pathetic that she can’t hit the notes, but tonguing that piece is insanely difficult. Not to mention you have to be able to double tongue down the scale in three notes. It’s crazy intense and hard to do. I played the trumpet for 8 years and had trouble with it (although admittedly I wasn’t working on double tonguing so much at that stage of the game). Don’t believe me ok. Get the melody in your head now as quickly as you can try tonguing Tu Tu Tuku Tu, Tu Tu Tuku Tu, Tu Tu Tuku Tu Tu Tu* Tu*, Tu Tu Tuku Tu, Tu Tu Tuku Tu Tu Tu*, and so on and so forth. Alright now you’ve got the easy part. The hard part is doing that while trying to basically jump octaves and not hit the notes in between. If you’ve ever played a purchase cheap pills brass instrument you know what I’m talking about (and I’m sure other people who don’t play brass might also know what I’m talking about). Wait a sec… Why am I defending her; I’ve only known her for 20 minutes? Trumpets can be hard ok :(.

Photobucket
Photobucket

22:39 So a Yui can’t play guitar scene, but for some reason it’s way more cute here :)!

Photobucket
Photobucket

The ED is no Don’t Say Lazy but I dig the brass and the marching base drum (or it’s tympai; can’t really tell). I wish it was subbed. I really like the duet thing going on too.

What can I say; this is going to be a fun series. It’s K-On with the potential for an actual plot. I’m definitely going to be watching every episode of this as I think it will inspire me to let my Bach Stradivarius see the light of day more often.

This show is just gorgeous.

the first thing I would like to say,

    This > K-on.

I also agree, the music is going to rock.

And I HAVE felt that good eating something. First time I have a donut, I MEAN A REAL DONUT. From like, a bakery – fresh.

I also fail to believe that she managed to swim out with that huge pack.

I’m a fan of slice of life sometimes, but I must say I’m actually thankful that there will be a plot and probably stakes as K-On got really boring for me after awhile. I don’t even know what they’re going to do with a 2nd season.

    I want a Donut now  .

“Wow and she’s even named Rio… They aren’t even trying.”

What are you saying – they evidently are and hard! Oh what’s that you say? Trying to DIFFERENTIATE themselves from K-ON? *appalled araragi face* whoever gave you that idea!

Ok jokes aside I’m a little surprised to see generally positive reviews of this so far, guess it means I should be checking it out despite it being such a blatant copycat.

“Trumpets can be hard ok :( .”

Ok :) I have a friend who used to play the trumpet in his school band, so I have an idea.

And just for abit I’m going to do the unthinkable – I’m gonna defend K-ON. I just rewatched it – the whole thing, and I think we might have been (ok, at least I was) a little biased in our initial evaluation due to the show’s ridiculous reception. But rewatching it sans the deafening chants of the cult of Mio, I think K-ON was really quite well done. KyoAni didn’t just bundle a show full of moe and kicked it on air, there is a good amount of noticeable work put into making it an overall pleasant watch. Overall great directing, some pretty good lines here and there, and very precise comedic timing. It even had some pretty good looking art accompanied by some really nice BGM peppered all around the show for extra slice-of-life goodness. I have come around to taking it as a proper and respectable show in itself, and not just an apologetic successor of Lucky Star.

    And I’m looking forward to K-ON S2 >.<

Lol! Don’t worry about it. I didn’t like K-on that much because I felt it lacked any kind of plot. For some reason I didn’t mind that with Lucky Star, but with K-On sometimes I felt like there was some manufactured drama that just didn’t work out. Like Azusa going emo about the bands and stuff. I liked K-On ok, but to me it will always be just ok.

Wrt K-ON!, that manufactured drama was something the Anime writers came up with. It’s not in the original but I suppose with a 4koma style manga, it’s difficult to conjure any sort of drama at all. I’d say they were done well in certain parts in that it helped give the character some depth in tandem with the events of the episodes but it also screwed up in some other parts by wrecking the original personalities of the character themselves.

As for SoraWoto, I enjoyed the first episode! It felt quite mellow, and I thought it was an excellent introduction to the characters and the history that was bound to the present story timeline. The latter probably gives us a hint of what is to come but it could also serve as a lesson of sorts which the main characters can fall back on and apply to their current lives. I’m not betting for the series to have any kind of plot. It would be nice if it did but it’s not too bad if it didn’t as long as we get something equally compelling in return such as character and relationship growth, two aspects which I hope will deviate as much as possible from the K-ON! archetypes people associated them with (I’m trying my best to avoid comparing the girls with the K-ON! ones. Strangely the more I look at them, the more I think “Kannagi” instead of “K-ON!”).

PS. Who in their right mind would consider jumping over a gap on the face of a cliff with an insanely huge and possibly very heavy backpack on their back? Oh wait… I momentarily forgot the type of person Kanata is.

I know it wasn’t the original, that’s what made it hard. Lucky Star had the Hiragi sister fight in it that I actually liked. It was just a small view of a family not getting along, which was a nice contrast to actually show how much they loved each other. When they did the stuff with Azusa I didn’t feel bad for her at all. She could have been in another band plus the school one. I don’t know, you kind of get what you ask for.

I’m actually a fan of Sora no Woto so far. I just kept comparing it to K-On because it kept blowing me away with how close the scenes were. This isn’t a bad thing, I have a lot of respect for KyoAni and any studio that can achieve that level of animation deserves and earns my respect. On the other hand it could turn out to be really bad :). We’ll have to see.

Kanata is kind of clueless XD.
