Dance in the Vampire Bund is Epic!!

So basically I didn’t know there was a manga and before you all go skitter away to read it I should put a major warning out that it is highly inappropriate (extreme violence, loli p8rn, and the like). Still despite its inappropriateness it’s dark and twisted. I like it!
There’s something to be said for the authors sense of humor too. It’s the kind of thing that hits you out of nowhere. You’re randomly digging through the fast paced action plot and two characters you never met before just slam you with a bit of everyday humor in a tense scene. I appreciate good writing and Tamaki Nozumu didn’t pull any punches in terms of a rich but alien world (and when I say alien I mean sick and twisted). Yet, strangely enough there are other elements there that are also really good. Don’t worry this is the only page of the manga I’ll share and its content has been screened.
The werewolf’s staunch nobility is a dead throwback to the Knights of the Round Table or the Samurai. I can’t help but gasp at the references to high literature (not to mention foreign) and the history Tamaki has created in this vampiric world.
All in all the series is intelligent in a way many series never even come close to achieving. I have to give as many props as I did to Anne Rice for Interview with a Vampire which hadn’t really even created the intense world we see present here. Twighlight = meh in my book so I’m sorry if you’re a fan of the series. It’s one of the few books I actually couldn’t finish. I got to the clearing scene where Edward was pretty much saying “Oh Bella I want to eat you” and Bella responding “Oh Edward I want you to eat me” and gave up. It was too much for me. I’m not nearly that hardcore.
With all that said I’m even more disappointed by the first episode of the anime adaptation. How could they have possibly thought that a T.V. show would be as good as the beginning of the story present in the manga? I can imagine them wanting to skip over the aforementioned inappropriateness, but they could have just had her wear some clothes. Really, it’s not that hard. By changing the story they risk changing the characters and the way we develop feeling for them. Why screw with something that is already good? In other words this series could easily make epic status if they just follow the story and put some top notch animation with it. God knows (Totally a Haruhi reference) that this season needs an epic series like Higurashi needs a trained psychiatrist.
Alright guys, so I can’t in good conscience recommend the manga due to some of the content, but I can hope for a darn good anime adaptation. Not that I really need to say anything, but hang in there and hopefully it will turn itself around towards the fantastic possibilities it’s capable of. Come on Shaft! You did a great job with Bakemonogatari, you can pull this out too.

I have read a lot of the manga too, and I like it!
That said I have also watched a the first episode of the anime, and even though it was vastly different from what Inexpected I don’t think it’s bad… I just don’t know what to expect. You know? I think it is actually kinda good that I don’t know what is happening next.
I agree. When I heard about this coming out I went and read through parts of the manga and I liked it. So unfortunately I had expectations of this first episode to be as good as the beginning of the manga and I was disappointed. But as I have said, I think that it will get better. At least that is my sincere hope.
@dai1313
I actually watched the first episode and then went to devour the manga a few days later. I guess my big problem besides the first episode being kind of boring was that it didn’t transition all that well. It gave us a feel for the character’s personalities, but not in the same way the world was set up in the first chapters of the manga. Doing it their way will steal a lot from the original if they intend to go back to the original story now (which is my sincere hope despite that). I agree that it’s more fun to get new material in our world, but not when it’s that bad XP.
@shadowahimsa
It probably will get better. They have to go back to the original story sometime. I have a hard time believing they would pick up a story they were planning to completely rewrite.
lol I read the title and my first reaction was “really!?”. Then I was like “oh he’s talking about the manga.”.
I think I’ll give the manga a skip for now because I definitely intend to (try) watching this, so I’d like to approach it neutral. Surprise me again Shaft! As you say we really need something epic this season and this looks like a good candidate, even in spite of ep 1.
I can hardly blame you and that was kind of my intention with the title XP.
What I’m hoping for is that Episode 1 was just some filler and they won’t make drastic changes to the rest of the manga plot. Shinbo’s directing works are love-hate for me. I think some of them are brilliantly done e.g. Bakemonogatari (I’ve resumed watching and I can honestly say I’m thoroughly enjoying it), and some just sucked e.g. Negima!?. I guess it’s still too early to be raging so I’m going to give it a couple of episodes more before unfairly ranting on the changes he made. At the very least, Shinbo is laying off the crude sense of humor he used to apply to some of his series. Those wouldn’t be appropriate for a dark story like Vampire Bund. Hope an excellent story such as this gets the justice it deserves.

I think that’s the same stance many of us are taking. I have yet to meet someone who didn’t like the original manga, so it’s hard for me to believe that they would diverge considerably from it (Like they did with the horrible Negima!? adapataion). It’s also possible that Shinbo can bring something entirely new and great to the table, though at this point I’m not exactly sure how his style will do that. I think it was a pretty piss poor introduction, but as long as he doesn’t stick with that style he could come up with some pretty brilliant stuff. I’m not against someone imagining a little more onto the world, I just hate when they reimagine something brilliant.
Crude sense of humor = no good for this type of story. Part of the draw is how sick and twisted this world is, but also how completely logical it is. I can’t say more for fear of people who might be spoiled by reading the comments, but I really want to talk about moments in the manga. Whenever, there is a manga that I want to talk about I know I’m in hook, line, and sinker.
I always liked Vampire-themed Anime. The last one I really liked was Trinity Blood. So this had a manga hmm? I’ll look this up. The 1st episode of the anime had a feeling of mysterious Gothic whatever and I liked it a lot, especially seeing the loli-vampire queen lol.
“It gave us a feel for the character’s personalities, but not in the same way the world was set up in the first chapters of the manga”
totally agree. who in their right minds would announce in a talk show that they purchased an island off of Japan’s property? wouldn’t it be more convincing if it was declared on a formal press conference?
the impression left by the anime contradicts the level of importance of the Bund when compared with the manga.
“the impression left by the anime contradicts the level of importance of the Bund when compared with the manga.”
That’s exactly the sentiment I got. If they want us to take this show seriously they should tell the story seriously. Right now it’s like they’re trying to do both. Either make the whole thing into a joke, or get to it Shaft!
