That’s exactly the sentiment I got. If they want us to take this show seriously they should tell the story seriously. Right now it’s like they’re trying to do both. Either make the whole thing into a joke, or get to it Shaft!

totally agree. who in their right minds would announce in a talk show that they purchased an island off of Japan’s property? wouldn’t it be more convincing if it was declared on a formal press conference?

the impression left by the anime contradicts the level of importance of the Bund when compared with the manga.

I think that’s the same stance many of us are taking. I have yet to meet someone who didn’t like the original manga, so it’s hard for me to believe that they would diverge considerably from it (Like they did with the horrible Negima!? adapataion). It’s also possible that Shinbo can bring something entirely new and great to the table, though at this point I’m not exactly sure how his style will do that. I think it was a pretty piss poor introduction, but as long as he doesn’t stick with that style he could come up with some pretty brilliant stuff. I’m not against someone imagining a little more onto the world, I just hate when they reimagine something brilliant.

Crude sense of humor = no good for this type of story. Part of the draw is how sick and twisted this world is, but also how completely logical it is. I can’t say more for fear of people who might be spoiled by reading the comments, but I really want to talk about moments in the manga. Whenever, there is a manga that I want to talk about I know I’m in hook, line, and sinker.
