Sora no Woto Survival Course (Episode 2)

Kureha is so Tsundere for Kanata.
Let me just ask first. If you were going to look for ghosts in a dark building the size of a school (right next to your living quarters) what would you bring? Here are a few selected answers:
A Gun
A pack that you couldn’t swim out of a river with
A Helmet to somewhat protect your head from being shot
A trigger happy freaked out loli
A Bugle
Congratulations if all those answers were on your list of things to bring. You are officially ready to join the cast of Sora no Woto. For reference my list included things like
A Flashlight (or a candle [since they have tanks I’m just going to assume they have flashlights])
Some scary ghost stories to terrify the loli with an overactive imagination
Rat Poison
Bells and other objects that make strange sounds to terrify the loli who has been pretending to be fearless since I showed up at the base
A trigger happy freaked out loli (Who you don’t give a gun Duh!)
If those five items were on your list congratulations! You have earned a Yin no Piano Badge! More specifically you have earned the Terrify Lolis Badge. It was a long and difficult journey, but I’m glad to see you made it through ok.

Wear it with pride and never forget our motto “Always be prepared”!
Alright so Sora no Woto hasn’t really shaped up to much yet, so far its remained pretty true to the slice of life formula, but they’ve added certain elements that could turn into plot: The tank, the oversized headless chicken bones, and the border. I’ve still got my hopes up for some development since this episode was trying to build relationships and develop characters. They did a pretty good job creating 2D characters so I’ll be interested to see if they can become more than that.
On Trumpet Playing: The morning call Rio was playing was not the morning call I was thinking of. This is the morning call I was thinking of:
Which is about a million times harder to play. I guess they wanted to make the world different by making the calls songs. FYI bugle calls in the military traditionally take place four times a day. They are
Reveille/morning colors
Chow/lunch/soupy, whatever you want to call it
Evening Colors
Taps
There you go. Now you have all the useless information you need to be a Sora no Woto snob. Your duties as a Sora no Woto snob consist of: Snarky comments every time a character in the anime does something that can be construed as odd, contempt for Kanata’s trumpet abilities, and throwing rotten fruit at the screen every time you think there is going to be a plot development (but it was actually a fake out). Warning Only perform your last duty if you are watching anime on someone else’s computer/TV.
Congratulations you won another Yin no Piano Badge. The Sora no Woto Snob Badge!

(clap clap clap)
In other news I was right last week when I said Noel was going to end up being my favorite character. Imagine the wordiness of Yuki Nagato combined with the sleeping habits of… well… me. I can’t help but feel she would be the easiest anime character to have a conversation with.
“Hey Noel how’s fixing the tank coming”?
*Slam* (Noel falls asleep in her breakfast).
I’m more excited for the different kinds of food Noel is going to fall asleep in then I am for Kanata getting better at the Bugle. I honestly suspect something is wrong with me or this show.
This week’s focus was definitely on Kureha like last week’s episode was focused on Rio. We got to see her insecurities and her over protectiveness of the squad. Her development was actually pretty well done by trying to show Kanata the squad as something that it wasn’t. I guess it would be equivalent to Azusa showing someone the K-On room… That’s exactly what it would be like… Didn’t I watch that episode? She’s embarrassed, but it’s obvious that she cares about them a lot. So much so that she’s trying to protect them from something they really don’t need to be protected from. I’ve got to say this for stock characters, at least I don’t have to spend a long time figuring them out so they can get to the plot… Oh wait, we still haven’t gotten to the plot… What was the point of using stock characters again?

But if you try sometimes, you get what you need.

I swear that’s the only note she knows the name of.

Two episodes in and I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about this show. They really haven’t taken any chances yet, but they have created some mystery surrounding the world (Like the abandoned school building that reeks of this show being post apocalyptic). This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if they don’t start developing towards a story line they’re going to lose the viewers who were looking for that and only be left with the viewers who wanted K-On 2.0. If that’s what they want fine, but I for one was hoping for more.
Kureha is a cute Tsundere!

What subbing group are you watching this from?
The subbing group that the screen caps are from go by the initials pwq. The one I originally watched was some stream from PhoAnime.com. Sorry I should probably be more knowledgeable and picky about my subbing groups
.
Ah that’s alright. Was just curious since I’m one of the people who only prefer subs from certain groups. I think the group that I watch for Sora no Woto is Coal and GG subs since they’re doing a joint subbing project on this. But oh well… ^^
Ya, coal and gg both seem to chronically have good subs.
And damn, so early in the season and I have a backlog growing allready.
Ahh, I know coal. They normally do good stuff. I’ll have to go get the RSS to their torrent thread and hold out for quality stuff
. Thanks a million, I’m not always sure who to check out for quality subs.
Those last pictures have Mio written all over them =/ And how come it’s Chidori inside your badges ^^
Because Chidori is awesome and I found that picture on my hardrive the other day and had a ROFLMAO moment. Plus wouldn’t you like to have a badge with Chidori giving you a thumbs up and a wink? I was going to use Yin, but you know…
I guess they are a little Mio, though I was getting the Azusa vibe hard Kureha all episode…
lol yeah I was wondering why it wasn’t Yin (like everything else on your blog ^^). And if you really pay attention Chidori isn’t thumbs-up-ing. I think.
Pay no attention to me Orz
She is so thumbs-uping! What the heck are you talking about? I actually think I found the original image by typing into google “Chidori Thumbs Up” because for some reason I really wanted a picture of that.
Oh the pay no attention, must be an edit
. Anyways… Yeah, Yin is pretty dominate, but it was a humor call and Yin really isn’t all that funny. She’s for creating a serious mood. Like when I’m about to tell you someone died, I put up a picture of Yin to prepare you. When Hinagiku is going through a self reflection, I put up a picture of Yin to prepare you. When the Minami-ke sisters are out of pudding, I put up a picture of Yin to prepare you… What!? It’s serious business when the Minami-ke sisters run out of pudding. Familial bonds Yo!
WHAT! So a poor loli getting terrified and your poor friend getting rotten fruit flung into his screen isn’t serious enough to warrant Yin’s meditative countenance!?
And I dunno, it’s hard to tell since it’s so small, but the first impression I got was Chidori had her index finger stretched out in a ’shoot’ sort of gesture.
That’s a thumbs up of sorts… It’s like the thumbs up you give someone when you’re signaling someone is going to shoot them. That was a much stronger argument in my head I assure you.
I actually don’t have any friends anymore (Something about them getting all bent out of shape about some fruit and their new monitors [Drama Queens]). I’ll have you know that I take major offense at you thinking the friend I have is male by the way. I’m perfectly capable of having female friends so you better take your implication back! I save Yin’s meditations for much more serious matters, scaring trigger happy loli’s falls into the category of good fun. That is until she shoots you with a thumbs up gun point. Then only the terrified loli is having fun. You would know these things if you had earned the Terrify Lolis badge.
WHAT! If you regularly watch anime off the screens of female friends then you need a couple of rotten fruits on YOUR screen, and all the rest of us need a consolatory Yin badge. And if only the terrified loli is having fun then the loli can have the Chidori shoot-thumbs-up and I, being shot and sad, deserve another consolatory Yin badge. And having this argument with you now after having just sanctimoniously posted on thinking and blogging makes me want to eat walls in remuneration. Which wall was the one who had a thing with you again?
Lol. I for one have put a lot of thought into this conversation
!
On another note, I do feel bad for your bullet ridden self so I decided to make a few commendations for your accomplishments. First up a well meaning:
for consolodation
.
Next up you will be the second person to earn this badge.
That’s right the infamous Wall Eater badge. (Clap clap clap).
Speaking of my wall, her and I had a fight and are currently broken up. We’re not speaking which is a little awkward since we share the same room.
Love the Yin APPROVES pic!
Ah, I must be a simple-minded nut because I enjoyed this SoraWoto episode very much. I love a good laugh. As long as I get that every now and then, the episode is good enough for me. I can’t help but think Kanata and Kureha equipping themselves for the ghost hunt like they’re going to war is either paranoia/over-preparation on their part, or a very mean joke by Rio or Felicia lol. Oh and Noel is hilarious :3. Kureha still feels somewhat stereotypical to me but at least they’re giving her more depth by showing that she does give mature and sensible opinions every now and then whenever a matter concerns the well-being of the platoon instead of simply playing the role of the cast’s standard brat.
On to other issues, it would be nice if they dive into the plot soon. I love good character developments but if there is a plot then it’s better if they get on it ASAP and not spend too much time developing the characters otherwise the latter half of the series is going to feel really rushed.
It was a fun episode. If you want a really good laugh though you should go watch the second episode of Baka to Test… It was downright hilarious. I don’t know what it was, maybe I was just in the right mood for it. I laughed more at that episode then I have at any anime for a long, long time.
It was a good episode (you’re not a simple minded idiot!) I’m just being particularly wary of this show turning into K-ON 2.0 (which I don’t want). I want Sora no Woto to develop its own feel, and so far it hasn’t really. As soon as it does I’ll be able to look back on this episode with a lot more happy thoughts.
I don’t think this series is that great like alot of people raved about.^^;(still above average compare to some other new series and would keep watching.)
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already. Seems the A-1 Pictures did something in three shots during this particular episode. Pretty interesting. Since it’s hard to give out the timing because various captures sometimes includeds the sponsor ads and some don’t. Check out the link with the pictures. For those who can’t read Japanese, the first two has a hand by the window and the third one has a face between their heads.

Just thought it’s pretty neat.^^
I actually did notice the hand in the first picture when I was watching the show, but I didn’t notice the second one. I guess there was a ghost hanging out after all. It was pretty cool.
This show hasn’t been amazing yet, I’m still hoping it will get better. Still, it’s not bad, I definitely don’t mind having it on my list.
Wow! I was wondering how in blazes did an owl come to look like a woman but I guess those shots explained it. Cool find!
*is satisfied with Yin badges ^^*
