I haven’t picked up any old anime in awhile and I happened upon a couple of old suggestions to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. I wasn’t sure about the show, but my friends raved enough about it that I figured I would give it a chance. I admit that I approached the whole thing with a little prejudice. Like I was an adult watching some little kids cartoon. It started out typical and cartoony, but it had enough of a draw to keep me watching. “Hey, I’ve watched worse anime so I might as well give these guys a try,” I thought.  “Plus this is the director that forced his entire staff to watch FLCL so he can’t be that bad.”

What I was rewarded with was pretty darn amazing. Though the introduction was goofy–and I felt the pace was a little off–the heart of the world soon came into full perspective. Although the show had some seriously Americanized moral overtones I accepted it pretty easily. The world was fully realized. I would be hard pressed to name something that drew out the full potential of the system it created like Avatar. I don’t care what you do, but at some point you should check out some of the fights that take place between the benders. It was fluid and so beautiful (That’s not even mentioning the huge battle scenes that were really well done). At first I wasn’t fond of the quirky humor, but it either grew on me or got a lot better as it went because I was laughing a lot towards the later episode (I know what it was; they developed the characters enough to make fun of them all the time). I was really blown away by how deep the show was towards some of the later episodes too. They were able to create ampicillin online diverse characters—unbelievably diverse characters–. They not only captured character stereotype, they used them to their advantage and did some outrageous things.

I’m actually surprised to be raving about this show. Maybe you won’t agree if you decide to watch it, but it was both beautiful and intense. Maybe it’s not from the moe factory like most animes, but that’s actually order discount pharm a good thing in my opinion.

If you have some spare time you should check it out. I think you’ll be as surprised as I was. (I liked it so much I’m not even spoiling)

    Yup, avatar is awesomeness.

Even though I say that, my sister is the one who watched every one of the episodes near-marathon-style

Just like you, I was also very weary about going into watching this. I think one or two of two things pushed me over the edge.

    1) A good review in a magazine I trust.

    2) A girl that REALLY hates me at my school gave a speech of how awesome it was.

Regardless, once I started watching it I found out to my dismay that I liked it and from there there was no turning back.

Anyway, I hope you have seen the trailers for the live action movie they are making. Seeing as this post is here and now though, I think I can assume that you already have.

The live action movie looks cool enough, but I am really worried if they get the characters and the humor right… because that is what I think can really make it unique and set it apart from other movies these days.

    And finally,
“Plus this is the director that forced his entire staff to watch FLCL so he can’t be that bad.” <<< I LOL'd. XD

I didn’t actually know about the live action until you just told me. I went and watched the trailer. It looks absolutely terrible. First of all there is no way they are going to be able to develop Avatar in two hours or less. Avatar is amazing for its world and characters. They won’t be able to make anything more developed than a stereotype when you realize how much action they’re going to try and pack into the show (Not mentioning how serious everyone looks in the trailer. I couldn’t even recognize Aang in that kid because he was just way too serious). I also wasn’t that impressed by the special effects for the bending. The actual show really captivated and inspired me while whatever they were doing in that trailer was just stupid. I don’t think it will be worth paying for at the box office. Plus I really hate Shamamamamalan.

The mark of a good director is having respect for all kinds of things. Just look at Quentin Tarantino: That guy is a genius because he has so much respect for all the different forms of the median.

    Psht!

I loved Avatar so much that I actually became obssessed with it one point. I won’t be watching the live action movie for numerous reasons but the main reason is that most of the characters are played by white people. Avatar takes place in Asia. So they should have Asian people playing the roles. It’s just like the FTB live action movie with a white Goku. It’s not cool and it’s insulting. Also Aang won’t have his blue arrow just a bunch of dots on his head. It looks like they made his arrow with a fucking Sharpie marker. So please don’t support the movie.

Avatar the last Airbender takes on Asian mythology, but the actual show takes place in another world. Plus I actually think the water tribes are Eskimos.

I still probably won’t bother with the movie, but that bothers me a lot less than some things (plus it looked like the cast was mostly Asian to me, but it was only a trailer so who knows.)

Actually Dustin, you’re right it’s based on Asian Mythology, and the actual show does take place in another world, the show actually is comprised of a mostly chinese/japanese/korean cast. The only non-that type are the water tribe who are more inuit. The live action cast looks mostly asian? .______. They’re like…mostly caucasian. Strictly caucasian. Those who aren’t are strictly middle eastern and almost none fo the Avatar characters are such. Aang looks too emo even though that aspect of his character come muuuuch later in the plotline. Before he’s an energetic optimistic naiive and innocent kid. He loses that later which permits seriousness but right now he’s waaaaay too emo. He’s overshadowing Zuko in his title of Captain Emo. Plus, the casters don’t even bother to try and make the actors look like their characters. Where’s Sokka’s wolftail, Katara’s hairloopies and braids? Aang’s tattoo’s messed up and Zuko’s scar is almost non-existent. It looks like 3.00 walgreen Halloween makeup. FAIL
