Actually Dustin, you're right it's based on Asian Mythology, and the actual show does take place in another world, the show actually is comprised of a mostly chinese/japanese/korean cast. The only non-that type are the water tribe who are more inuit. The live action cast looks mostly asian? .______. They're like...mostly caucasian. Strictly caucasian. Those who aren't are strictly middle eastern and almost none fo the Avatar characters are such. Aang looks too emo even though that aspect of his character come muuuuch later in the plotline. Before he's an energetic optimistic naiive and innocent kid. He loses that later which permits seriousness but right now he's waaaaay too emo. He's overshadowing Zuko in his title of Captain Emo. Plus, the casters don't even bother to try and make the actors look like their characters. Where's Sokka's wolftail, Katara's hairloopies and braids? Aang's tattoo's messed up and Zuko's scar is almost non-existent. It looks like 3.00 walgreen Halloween makeup. FAIL

Avatar the last Airbender takes on Asian mythology, but the actual show takes place in another world. Plus I actually think the water tribes are Eskimos.

I still probably won't bother with the movie, but that bothers me a lot less than some things (plus it looked like the cast was mostly Asian to me, but it was only a trailer so who knows.)

I loved Avatar so much that I actually became obssessed with it one point. I won't be watching the live action movie for numerous reasons but the main reason is that most of the characters are played by white people. Avatar takes place in Asia. So they should have Asian people playing the roles. It's just like the FTB live action movie with a white Goku. It's not cool and it's insulting. Also Aang won't have his blue arrow just a bunch of dots on his head. It looks like they made his arrow with a fucking Sharpie marker. So please don't support the movie.

I didn't actually know about the live action until you just told me. I went and watched the trailer. It looks absolutely terrible. First of all there is no way they are going to be able to develop Avatar in two hours or less. Avatar is amazing for its world and characters. They won't be able to make anything more developed than a stereotype when you realize how much action they're going to try and pack into the show (Not mentioning how serious everyone looks in the trailer. I couldn't even recognize Aang in that kid because he was just way too serious). I also wasn't that impressed by the special effects for the bending. The actual show really captivated and inspired me while whatever they were doing in that trailer was just stupid. I don't think it will be worth paying for at the box office. Plus I really hate Shamamamamalan.

The mark of a good director is having respect for all kinds of things. Just look at Quentin Tarantino: That guy is a genius because he has so much respect for all the different forms of the median.
