As many of you know I enjoy playing the piano and have transcribed pieces on occasion, but Josh here is someone I really look up to in terms of his transcriptions and playing ability. This is a video of him playing exerts from 18 animes that aired in 2009 (which is a lot). If you’re a bit like me (and even if you aren’t) some of these songs will jump out and club you over the head. I guess I just started associating the anime with the songs at some point: Thus parts of this can be really moving. Give it a listen :).
This is some sheet music for Bb trumpet. Specifically it’s the song Rio plays at the end of Episode One over the canyon. I thought it was pretty great (which is rare because most of the time I dislike solo trumpet songs) so I decided to transcribe it and share it with all of you other trumpet players out there. I don’t know what the song is actually called so I’m nicknaming it the Sound of the Sky since that’s what Kanata seemed to think of it.

Here’s a bit of a complaint. That looks like a Bb trumpet (and Bb trumpets are by far the most common type of trumpet) but the fingerings she’s using to play those notes are completely wrong XD. I can’t believe they spent the time animating and timing this piece of music, but didn’t bother getting the fingerings right. Then again maybe the trumpets just in a different key (we can hope at least).
So I’ve been transcribing this over the past couple of days. For one thing it’s sung by Katou Emiri who is pretty much my favorite voice actress (I don’t even know why… oh yeah Kagami). I already uploaded it to the new Piano Music Archive but I’ll go ahead and put the Midi and PDF here as well. If you want to play it up to speed you’re going to probably have to use two fingers to trill the 16th notes (and this won’t even work on my keyboard as the action isn’t fast enough :(. In other words it’s almost impossible to play the melody up to speed anyways). If your piano/keyboard action is the problem then I would recommend you go ahead and play the 16th notes as octaves (Better than ruining the rhythm).

This is a song I thought someone else would transcribe. I thought this for a long time until I finally got fed up with it and did a transcription myself. I really, REALLY dig this song and remember watching the video over and over again when it came out. Yes, I know I’m a sucker for something, but I’m not quite sure what. I love the syncopated rhythms and her expression during the soft rap section. Alright you want the music:
Enjoyed how Kaoru didn’t think much of Junichi until Junichi planted the thought that he thought she would confess to him in her mind. Inception! It worked too.
That said, isn’t Haruhi Suzumiya just a time-traveling version of Inception?
